CAUSE FOR CONCERN:

Recent research has also shown that girls are more likely to try alcohol than boys.  According to the Fall, 2009 California Healthy Kids Survey for Napa County, among 9th grade girls:

51% have had one full drink in their lifetime (boys: 45%)
31% have had one full drink of alcohol in the last 30 days (boys: 22%)
31% have gotten very drink and/or sick from drinking (boys: 25%)

2008 CALIFORNIA HEALTHY KIDS SURVEY - Napa County


Napa County middle school and high school students participate in an anonymous survey each year that allows the students to provide their input about issues facing our community’s youth.  Below are just a few of the key statistics from the 2008 California Health Kids Survey:
~31% of 11th graders and 22% of 9th graders in Napa County have driven drunk or been a passenger to a drunk driver.
~26% of Napa County 11th graders report binge drinking.*
~39% of 11th graders and 25% of 9th graders say they have used alcohol or other drugs in the last 30 days.

* Binge drinking is defined as consuming five or more drinks (male), or four or more drinks (female), in about two hours. (NIAAA, 2004)
